FAQs

Our products are unconventional and may raise a question or two. Here are some answers.

What if water spills on the cardboard furniture and it gets wet?

Don't worry! If water spills on the cardboard furniture, simply blot up the liquid with a dry cloth (without detergent) and allow the rest to air dry. Small areas of moisture won't compromise the stability of the furniture. However, avoid prolonged exposure to moisture as it can affect stability. Always check the furniture's stability after any contact with liquid.

How long-lasting is cardboard furniture?

Each piece of our furniture is crafted to serve as a robust alternative to traditional furniture, boasting high-quality construction. With proper care, you can anticipate a lifespan of approximately 10 years.

What makes cardboard furniture more sustainable compared to traditional furniture?

Corrugated cardboard furniture is exceptionally sustainable due to its high recycled content (54 to 80%), minimizing resource consumption. The fresh paper fibers used for stability are sourced exclusively from sustainable forestry. At the end of its lifecycle, the furniture is fully recyclable by simply placing it in the waste paper bin, ensuring material reintegration into the recycling loop. Additionally, compared to conventional furniture, cardboard furniture emits significantly less CO2 and is more climate-friendly. For instance, the Bed 2.0 boasts a substantially reduced environmental impact: its CO2 footprint and contribution to global warming are 280 times lower, it utilizes 8,000 times less energy, and its transportation is four times more climate-friendly due to its lightweight construction.

Isn't it expected that cardboard furniture should be more affordable?

Our furniture is distinct from typical moving boxes or shipping packaging. Those are mass-produced using low-quality cardboard, which keeps their costs low. In contrast, RIAB cardboard furniture is crafted in Germany in smaller batches using top-grade corrugated cardboard and assembled with meticulous care. This approach ensures durable and high-quality furniture that offers long-lasting enjoyment.

Is a slatted frame necessary for Bed 2.0?

No, a separate slatted frame is not required. Just place the mattress directly on the Bed 2.0. The rhombus construction and high permeability of the corrugated board ensure adequate air circulation. Interestingly, the German consumer protection organization Stiftung Warentest recommends using a solid base, which aligns with the design of our cardboard beds.

How can I adjust the size of the Bed 2.0?

You can easily adjust the size of our cardboard bed according to your requirements. Detailed instructions for assembly and resizing the Bed 2.0 are available in the assembly instructions or video tutorial.

Will the Bed 2.0 support activities like sex without collapsing?

In our Bed 2.0, you can do everything you would do in any other bed, including ordinary and intimate activities like sex. We conducted extensive long-term studies to ensure its durability and comfort. Additionally, our bed has been certified by the German TÜV according to DIN EN 1725, meeting all necessary standards required for beds in Germany.

How does the Bed 2.0 ensure adequate air circulation?

The corrugated board material is naturally breathable. The rhombus construction and slits on the sides of the Bed 2.0 facilitate outward air movement when in use. To optimize this airflow, it's recommended to maintain a gap approximately the width of a hand between the bed and adjacent walls. This precaution helps prevent potential mold formation.
