    13 YEARS OF EXPERIENCE

    When we launched ROOM IN A BOX in 2013, we were completely aligned on one concept: the idea of a quality piece of furniture. A quality piece of furniture must excel not only in functionality and design but also in sustainability and affordability.

     

    We design cardboard furniture that meets these exact standards. It is sustainable, affordable, and has its own unique aesthetic! The Bed 2.0 has already been sold thousands of times. And importantly, once it reaches the end of its life, it returns 100% to the raw material cycle.

     

    Even after 13 years, our vision remains steadfast: to create a line of furniture that impresses with its sophisticated simplicity, improves our customers' lives, and protects the environment.

    MODULAR DESIGN

    In designing our furniture, we utilize modular construction methods that provide our customers with exceptional flexibility and foster creativity. Our designs feature a minimal number of components that can be easily replaced, allowing for straightforward modifications.

     

    Our furniture is entirely free from environmentally harmful adhesives. Each piece is preassembled by hand, and in the case of our Bed 2.0, it is shipped fully assembled.

     

    The result is a high-quality, durable design product, manufactured under fair and eco-friendly conditions, and tested to ensure compliance with German standards.

    SUSTAINABILITY

    Our furniture concept is distinguished by its circular approach. We use corrugated cardboard, composed of 54% to 80% recycled material, with the remainder made from virgin fibers sourced from sustainable forestry, providing the necessary stability for furniture construction. The cardboard furniture is fully recyclable. We use vegan starch glue derived from potato, corn, or wheat starch as the adhesive, and finish the material exclusively with environmentally friendly, water-based printing inks.

     

    The environmental impact of corrugated board production and processing has significantly improved in recent years. Recovery rates for recycled paper have greatly increased, and energy consumption has been notably reduced. The paper for our cardboard furniture is produced and processed in Germany, minimizing transport distances. We sell our products exclusively online and ship them climate-neutrally.

    ZERO WASTE PRODUCTION

    The components of our furniture are die-cut in the corrugated cardboard plant from the highest quality heavy-duty board. The use of novel processes in diemaking preserves our corrugated board during processing, resulting in high stability and an aesthetic end result.

     

    To reduce waste from the outset, we make sure that components can be arranged on the cutting dies as efficiently as possible. Cardboard scraps that accumulate as waste during production are returned directly to the recycling loop.  

    INDOOR CLIMATE

    The design is straightforward: simple in form, understated in aesthetics, and functional in use. Using corrugated board offers benefits to both spaces and their occupants. Corrugated board helps regulate indoor humidity and positively impacts room acoustics due to its sound-absorbing properties, making it especially beneficial in office environments.

     

    The natural surfaces of strong kraft paper are warm to the touch, offering both resistance and softness. They can be colored or decorated with stickers, allowing for endless creative possibilities. Cardboard furniture provides design freedom in spaces where we spend significant time, such as bedrooms and workrooms.

    LONGEVITY

    Our cardboard furniture, despite being recyclable at the end of its life cycle, is far from disposable. Each piece is designed and crafted to serve as a fully-fledged alternative to traditional furniture. The use of robust kraft paper ensures excellent resistance, even against liquids, making them durable and long-lasting.

     

    With proper care, our cardboard Bed 2.0, for instance, is expected to last approximately 10 years. If any component is damaged prematurely, it can be effortlessly replaced without the necessity of discarding the entire piece of furniture.
